September 3, 2007 - Ojek! Ojek!

I had my first ojek ride today. An ojek is a motorcycle taxi. Garth and I walked to the store and then I took an ojek back. We bought flour, and other heavy bags of food that we would have been struggling to carry up the hill. The ojek ride was great!! He charged me 3,000 rupiahs or like 30 cents. Garth was a drippy mess when he got back. Today was a 3 shower day for him. I never know how hot it is by temperature-we cage it by how many showers we had to take.
Sophie had so much fun at her birthday party. She had ice cream and french fries. I think for awhile she forgot that she wasn't in the States. She can't wait to do it again.
The kids came home from school today and told me that they had an earthquake drill. Emma said that if they have an earthquake she is to go under her desk and wrap one arm around a leg of the desk. Then they proceeded to tell me what they would do in a lock down situation. If we ever were in a situation that we were attacked or the school thought for any reason we were not safe, there is a plan and each class room has a storage room with no windows and plenty of supplies for the kids to go to be safe. The school takes every precaution to be as safe as possible. That is good to know.
In regards to my plea for a teacher: If you are interested or know of someone who may be, please let us know. We will provide you with all the information needed. You can check out the school's website at: www.hismk.org. Even if you can only commit to teach the Jan '08 semester, that will at least buy us some time to find a teacher for the next year. There is already furnished housing, vehicle, classroom, materials and students---all we need is a teacher!
The pembantu's just can't get enough of Cale. They all try to be his favorite. I thought he was spoiled before-now he has 4 ladies vying for his attention everyday...Poppi made bagels today and made 2 little ones just for Cale, Yulli cut up watermelon in small pieces and took the seeds out for him, Agu plays peek-a-boo with him and Yosina gives him high fives. They all pick him up and try to keep him happy. What a life that guy has, and he probably won't remember any of it.
Tonight in our devotion time the dorm kids were sharing about what God taught them during the beach trip. One boy was talking about how he felt lonely and he asked God to be with him and right then one of the adults came over and starting talking to him and really encouraged him. One girl talked about how she realized that she needs to spend more time learning about God and what He wants her to do with her life- a bunch of them shared ways that God is helping them grow. It was great. God is showing Himself to these kids because they are seeking Him. I am excited to see all that we will learn from them too.
Enjoy your day off!
Rachel
