Update #9

Hello everyone. I am happy to say that life is getting back to normal here. There is less military and police in the streets, schools and shops are all open again, and the general feeling of unrest seems to have subsided, for now. The government has turned the internet back on and all phones are working again. I have never been through a situation like that before, and it was a bit crazy! There were several days where our guesthouse was used to house people that weren't able to get to their home due to the riots and fighting. Quite a bit of damage was done and the people are trying to recover. Thank you for praying for us. We had no idea from day to day what would happen and are happy to report that we were kept safe and sound through the whole ordeal.
We weren't really allowed to take pictures but I got a few.

It is interesting to see how God is shaping our new roles here in Papua. Even though we are not Dorm parents right now, we are still being used in the lives of these kids. Our house is always full. Seriously. Even now as I type there are 4 kids in my kitchen eating snacks, two at the piano, and  two doing homework (trying). It seems like whenever there is a break from school, we load all available kids up and go exploring, or swimming or just give them all a place to hang out (and make food and eat food-there is always food involved. Haha. These kids are always hungry.) Our reach is stretching far beyond just the kids. We are able to reach out to the teachers and other families in the community. When we were dorm parents, that  took up most of our time. So I am thrilled that God is finding new ways to use us.

Papua is such an amazingly beautiful place and it really has our hearts. Thanks for being such great supporters of us and our ministry.
Love
Rachel
