Waterfall Hike

Today was awesome. You would have had soooooooooo much fun if you were here. We decided to hike up part of the mountain and go to one of the waterfalls with some of our friends. We left around 8 am and drove up as far as we could and then hiked the rest of the way. It was a good hour of often difficult hiking and climbing , but the kids did great. We had to carry Cale through some of the bad spots but he did great too. Once we got up to Middle Falls there were some fantastic pools of cool water that we could swim in. Also some large rocks that we could jump off of into the water. The day was perfect-the weather was sometimes overcast and sometimes sunny. We need it overcast to give us a break from the sun, but then after swimming we needed the sun to warm us up since the water was chilly. The guys all hiked up even farther to another waterfall and a cave. Then we had a nice picnic there by the falls and hiked down and got back home around 3.
I am amazed at all of the “stuff” in the jungle that you don’t see from the ground looking up at the mountain. There are so many different shades of green, so many different shapes of leaves and trees and vines…We saw some beautiful butterflies-orange and brown and bright blue-some big spiders in their webs in the jungle and a huge bright green beetle that was amazing.
We are all tuckered out. We had a light dinner and watched Music Man and put everyone to bed early. I will be heading that way myself after I am done talking to you.
Love to all-Rachel
